The NFL 3-year rule has also changed the way the NFL Draft is seen. It’s no longer just about drafting “can’t miss” prospects, but also about adding lower-rated players thatDevelopmental players that can be groomed for a few years and may eventually become key contributors. Teams can now pick a player that isn’t necessarily expected to contribute Day 1, and have the freedom to develop him over the 3-year period.
It’s amazing to to see how much the NFL has evolved since the arrival of the 3-year rule.
